Adding to the seemingly never-ending string of lineup announcements, MELT Festival is today sliding in with a bill for all lovers of music and culture. A celebration of queer art, artists, allies, and ideas, the Brissy/Meanjin mainstay is returning for its eighth edition at the Brisbane Powerhouse this year, and the list of creatives on display is second to none.
Running from November 11th to 26th, the Powerhouse has curated a genre-spanning batch of artists led by UK dance phenom, Aluna who’ll be sharing the stage with Australia’s own international export, KUČKA. Adding to the festivities is Grammy-nominated Kah-Lo who will be bringing her unique blend of dance along with First Nations artist Djanaba. In the words of Artistic Director and CEO, Kate Gould, expect an “explosion of creativity blending music, visual art, and theatre to deliver our audiences an amazing program on the dancefloor, in the gallery, and across our theatres. What better way to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community than with a kaleidoscope of performers and experiences curated by our diverse team at Brisbane Powerhouse.”

It definitely goes beyond your usual music event, with an array music, theatre, exhibitions, and discussions on offer for attendees. From provocative theatre performances to visual art exhibitions, book tours and more, there’s a little something for everyone over the two weeks. Imagine a massive festival, but instead of just having that music itch scratched, literally every interest and interest you have gets fed ten times over.
