The two obvious influences for any Aussie band…

In amongst touring the nation and prepping for the inevitable onslaught of the Aussie festival season, Melbourne larrikins Teenage Dads have managed to squeeze out a new single. Titled ‘I Like It’ (guilt), the latest offering from the ‘Speedracer’ singers is laid back, easy going and most importantly, nostalgic! It makes you yearn for experiences you’ve never even lived through, all through a salt of the earth Aussie lens that is rife with life.

Beginning with a tangy guitar line and some powerful vocals courtesy of lead singer Jordan Finlay, ‘I Like It’ is alluring and inviting in its construction, immediately sucking you into the retro 70s through a Woodstock-inspired soundscape that’s impossible not to feel uplifted by. Picture retro racers and those midday ’70s game shows that seemed to a parody of the decade: it’s a concoction of influences that heavily permeate ‘I Like It’, and if we had to guess one Aussie band that had time travelled from the iconic decade, our money would be on the Victorian four-piece.

Speaking on the paradoxical nature of the song and its meaning, the band explain, “Whilst not specifically about anything or anyone, ‘I Like It’ focuses on the excitement and thrill of being with someone who captivates and excites you.” It’s a sentiment that instantly clicks once you realise ‘I Like It’s core purpose, and don’t be surprised if you catch yourself internally soundtracking every future rom-com you watch with the new number.”

It’s a nice left field musical venture from the group, and it’s fitting that they be our Artist of the Week. Be sure to check out ‘I Like It’ above, and buy/stream it here. You can also check out their full Aussie tour dates below.
