Beginning with some melancholic synths, ‘WHAT’S THE MOVE’ sets a sombre and magnetic tone that captures your attention from the outset. True to form, Leroy explodes onto the beat with a hybridised mix of singing and rapping, as he immediately gives an insight into falling in love with the backdrop of fame, especially in the lines “You’re the one for me, I can’t let you go / Wear cargo pants, we pose / Windows open, we smoke the roach down.” Baby Drill and Future serve up their own experiences of life in the spotlight however, Leroy is well and truly the star of ‘WHAT’S THE MOVE’, with a single showing just how far he’s come in that he can more than hold his own against the 2 veteran MCs.
The accompanying music video is comprised of BTS footage along with stylised visuals of disillusioned teens (and LAROI himself) trying to maintain connection and friendship amongst the temptations of everyday life. It makes for a grounding cinematic that captures the brooding nature of the single and affirms its universal reliability to anyone trying to maintain their bond with another through the chaos of life.
