Polish Club are back.

It feels like one of the last times we spoke with Sydney duo Polish Club, they were in our office talking all kinds of talk for our On Hold series. Since then, a lot has happened for them: they got married (not to each other), Novak had open-heart surgery, and gone independent. And now, they’ve shared a brand new track ‘Manila’, a shimmering indie-pop tune that is all about Novak’s love for his home-away-from-home the Philippines.

It’s a less flashy version of the band, with the duo allowing the melodies and lyrics to do the talking. “There’s a reservation in the vocal to ‘Manila’ that we haven’t really explored in our previous music,” Novak says. “It feels like a more earned climax towards the end of the song, when you really take your time with building a crescendo in a song.”

The accompanying visuals were filmed by Novak himself on a handicam during one of his trips to the Filipino capital, capturing the bustling beauty of the city.

It comes with news that they’ll be playing their first show in ages, Sydney Spiegeltent on Thrusday 23rd May, with Canberran indie-pop act Sesame Girl, Eora/Sydney’s own Jet City Sports Club and Rat Public all set to grace the stage. Tickets are on sale now (here).

And, obvs, stay tuned for more from Polish Club…
