Hands up if you’re about to hear Des Cortez for the first time?? That was us a few hours ago, but since then we’ve been blasting the Naarm trio’s latest tune ‘Ultraviolet’ non stop.
The track has everything you want in a indie anthem. It kicks off with a driving beat before jangly guitars and a groovy little bass line set up space for some massive vocals, which then lead to a huge chorus.
It’s the kind of thing you might find on a long lost War On Drugs album, with the trio – who are only a few years out of high school – showcasing a depth that is far beyond their years.

On the whole, they present a pretty immersive listen that feels like it will play well in the pubs and clubs around Melbourne, but we can also imagine this one performed during the sunset slot at a big festival.
To celebrate, the band will be performing on the 25th of May at the John Curtain Hotel in Melbourne, make sure you follow them on Instagram for details.
