Every wondered what you would do if you encountered an alien. Personally, I’d probably shit my pants, grab anything that could be used as a weapon and find somewhere to hide. But I am not Skegss. As illustrated in their new video for ‘Spaceman’, directed by Vaughan Deadly, the duo do not fear aliens, in fact they are ready to embrace them.
“We found an alien, his name is Ruku Chismun, which translates to Ricky Cheesemoon. Stuck on Earth, space is 62 miles away, so far without a spaceship!” says frontman Ben Reed. “He looked a similar age to us in light years, so we thought we would show him what we do for fun to cheer him up. He found a groove, he accidentally fell in love and he lost his way twice. Can Ruku Chismun pull through…”

Listening to the tune really reminds you of the subtle power or Benny’s voice. He’s kind of like the Aussie version of J Mascis; delivering these seemingly slacker lines with really authentic emotional undertones, and sneakily good melodies – bloody beautiful stuff.
According to the band, the song is an old one that has been tinkered with over the years, resulting in what you’re hearing today. “Made this song during the pandemic and it’s had a couple of versions, but happy we kept trying new things with this one and where we got it to,” explains Reed.
To celebrate ‘Spaceman’, Skegss will be hitting the road for the ‘So Far From Spaceman’ tour in June and July, performing at a bunch of east coast venues. Check out the dates below and grab yourself a ticket right here.
