Last time we heard from MILKU, he was dropping by the studio for a quick art lesson (see below), but clearly he’s been busy, having wrapped a bunch of shows with Middle Kids and now releasing a delightful little tune of his own ‘Falling In Love Again’.
The song clocks in just under two meaning there’s no filler; strictly melodic bliss buoyed by swelling synths, arpeggiated guitar and a simple beat. It’s a little pocket-sized piece of masterful songwriting, completely on brand with everything we’ve heard from the Sydney artist previously.
“’Fall In Love Again’ is about that thing that everyone wants to do, all the time: fall in love again. With your person, with a new person, whoever. It’s why people buy red cars and build cathedrals and go thrift shopping for cute little outfits; we want people to look at us and then we want to fall in love with them. There’s part of me that wants to fall in love with every new person I meet — this song is also about trying to square that with keeping something real going.”
Of the video, he added: “The music video is about the idea that you will become your parents one day. It’s fucking scary but true. So we cast my dad in it and my best friend and her mum, and have these shots where we morph into our parents with no warning or explanation. I am actually horrified by this idea as I think it is the central horror of life (i.e. death) but what came out was also really wholesome and comforting. It seems a lot easier when you have someone to face it with.”
