But in hindsight, Timothée Chalamet has never really turned in a terrible performance (we don’t blame him for A Rainy Day In New York!), so why were we worried? Well, movies, especially biopics have a way of letting us the fuck down. From what we’ve seen in the A Complete Unknown trailer which dropped overnight, the story of folk’s most iconic singer is in safe hands.
Directed by James Mangold and written by Mangold and Jay Cocks, the upcoming film delves into Bob Dylan’s formative years as a singer in New York City, culminating in his legendary 1965 performance at the Newport Folk Festival. The trailer opens with a shot of the iconic Hotel Chelsea, a cultural hub frequented by Dylan and other musical legends of the era. It then features Timothée Chalamet, portraying Dylan, strolling through the streets of 1960s New York City, accompanied by his rendition of the 1963 song ‘A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall’.
The trailer’s second half hints at a love triangle involving Joan Baez, played by Monica Barbaro, and Suze Rotolo, portrayed by Elle Fanning, Dylan’s former girlfriend. By the trailer’s end, Chalamet fully transforms into the iconic Dylan, complete with longer hair and sunglasses, capturing the essence of the legendary musician.
