The band, which began life in rural NSW, have made a habit of writing earworms over the course of their now five albums-deep career. Obviously there’s the Hottest 100 winning ‘Hoops’ which took out the award in 2015, but there are also tracks like ‘Masterpiece’, ‘Live In Life’ and more that have found their way into the ears of millions, with the band’s knack for plucking at the heartstrings while serving up melodic hooks unmatched within the Aus music industry.
Now we have their fifth LP SODA, recorded in a WWII bunker-turned-home studio, SODA showcases The Rubens’ signature style with a fresh twist: love songs to drug dealers, guitars disguised as synths, and robotic vocals that add an unexpected layer to their sound.
With standout tracks like ‘Black Balloon’, ‘Liquid Gold’, ‘Good Mood’ the album delivers pop hooks that are both subversive and seductive. It’s a record only The Rubens—three brothers bound by blood, plus two lifelong friends—could pull off, reflecting their 15-year journey together and their unrelenting urge to redefine their music.

“We got to Soda through each record before it,” the band says. “We’re proud of them and even more proud of this one.”
The Rubens are hitting the road for a 14-date Australian tour, kicking off with a sold-out show in Tasmania and wrapping up with metro and regional stops across the country. Fans in Melbourne were so eager that the band added a second show after the first sold out in record time. Check out the dates below and head here for tickets.
