These days when an artist drops the first single off an album or an EP, it’s followed by a massive run of promo, maybe some shows, and a long wait before we get more new music. That’s not the case for Bundjalung and South Sea Islander MC from Tweed Heads (Minyugmbal / Goodjinburra country), JK-47, who today has dropped ‘BLAKT OUT’, the second taste from his forthcoming A Road Less Travelled EP, just a few days after sharing ‘GOD TIMING’. The timing of the drop and the tracks themselves can only mean one thing: he’s not messing around.
Let’s start with ‘GOD TIMING’. By design the track features this ethereal loop with a slightly funky guitar line, creating this moody but uplifting canvas for JK to drop what feels like a freestyle on. It has that EP opener energy as we hear him lay out the timeline of his career, life and growth, and the divine forces behind it. Of course, his flow is exceptional, with the lines like “God’s plan, but really I just let the work show” jumping out immediately.

On today’s release ‘BLAKT OUT’, we see a different side of JK-47 – one that will definitely be familiar to those who’ve been listening since his barnstorming breakthrough Made For This. Complete with horns and buoyed by the vocal prowess of Chiggz, the track has party anthem written all over it and takes things to a new level about two minutes into it when a sleazy bass and synth line enter the chat.
“This song is about those moments when you feel on top of the world, riding around with the music blasting, your people in the back, and everything just feels right. Having my older brother Chiggz on the track makes it even more special—this one’s for the family,” JK-47 says of the track.
So far, no news on a release date for A Road Less Travelled, but we’re hoping that he maintains the rate in which he’s dropping these juicy tracks. Follow him here for the next release.
