Seaside are not messing about.

Gone are the days of the dreamy Byron rock band that gave us gems like ‘Sycamore’ and ‘Golden Girl’. Since last year’s Wishbone EP, it seems that Seaside have been on a bit of a mission to evolve their sound into something heavier, darker, and more direct. And, as much as we adore the old stuff, we’ve gotta say that the new Seaside is bloody ripping.

Today’s release, ‘Sick’, sounds like an Oliveri-era QOTSA track mixed with Refused, complete with brooding guitars, a beat borrowed from The Prodigy, and lyrics of someone that is bruised but fighting back. Their release track of 2025, it must be frontwoman Darcy Dexter’s most powerful vocal performance, one that you can feel reaching deep inside your chest.

The accompanying video, directed by Barclay Israel with animations by Jake Veroshine, has a slasher energy as band members appear and reappear behind a raging Dexter:

Is this taste of Seaside going to be the direction they’ll be taking forever? Who knows. But it’s clear the band are in a mood. A bad mood. And we are here reaping all the benefits of this chaotic iteration. You can only imagine how good this one is going to go down live – my gawd.
