Salarymen are our most trusted source of music.

I’ve been singing Salarymen’s praises for about five years now (I checked it). Their shimmering melodies, rock sensibilities, and occasional melancholy has led us at LWA to acquire a serious condition known as Salarymania. Those affected will find the duo made up of Thom Eagleton and Renee de la Motte hogging a lot of space on playlists and listening devices.

‘Truth’, their latest tune from their forthcoming debut album, is about a different kind of mental affliction – the inability to separate fiction from reality. Not that the duo are blaming you for your closeted flat-Earth beliefs, but more commenting on how society has made it possible…

“In a world where common sense has seemingly been overtaken by click bait, conspiracies and deepfakes, it’s getting harder to locate the truth, and some of the world’s most influential politicians are using this to their advantage,” Renee says. “We’re living in a crazy time where you can’t tell what’s real and fake sometimes, and it makes you wonder how much worse it’ll get. This track is our comical take on people who get sucked into political cults and believe everything they see on the internet.”

Of course it’s a bloody gem of a tune, with Thom and Renee’s signature interweaving vocals delivering a delightful sonic serenade, with the visuals matching the offbeat, tongue-in-cheek vibe of the track itself. Here you’ll cop vintage filters, strange cult leaders and a couple of disguises…

And if you’re looking to catch Salarymen live, you’re in luck – the duo are hitting stages across NSW in support of ‘Truth’ and their upcoming debut album. See them at the Tune In Festival in Wollongong, on support duties for Ball Park Music at the Enmore Theatre and WAVES, and at a bunch of regional shows and festivals throughout winter.
