We first saw Sweet Talk in an alley in Newtown…

It was part of a Young Henrys bday celebration and the Melbourne band whipped the crowd into a toe-tapping, cowboy hat-tipping rock and roll hoedown. Since that day, we’ve been following their every move with stalkerish anticipation, waiting for this debut long form to grace our earholes.

Finally the wait (very tempted to write “The Weight” for some reason…) is over, with the group serving up Switch On — a collection of Americana balladry, delicious guitarwork, and glorious harmonies. A festival favourite, it feels like the band have been living these songs for a while, unpacking them on stages around the country before heading on their merry way:

“Switch On” represents the first true body of work from Sweet Talk. It’s a culmination of several years of writing and touring, road tested songs recorded live to tape in the studio. It’s the band at its fiery best and we could not be happier or more excited that it is out in the world! We hope our fans, new and old, love this record as much as we do. This one is for you all. Big Love, Sweet Talk x.”

And the timing couldn’t be sweeter (hehe) — Sweet Talk are currently on a national run with US Americana heavyweights The Red Clay Strays, bringing the Switch On live experience to stages across the country. After standout sets at Bluesfest and recent dates with Charley Crockett, the six-piece are firing on all cylinders.

Catch them tonight in Fremantle at Honky Tonk Blues Bar, or tomorrow in Perth at Metro City.
