DZ Deathrays are back in full throttle mode with their latest single ‘Sideways’—a woozy, riff-fuelled dance-punk cut that feels like clinging to the edge of a speedboat ride gone rogue. Built around a riff dreamt up by Lachlan Ewbank, the track balances seasick energy with laser-focused adrenaline, staying true to the band’s trademark mix of chaos and control.
Frontman Shane Parsons reveals, “Lachy actually dreamt the riff in this song and somehow we turned it into a woozy dance punk track. I like the way this track almost makes you feel like you’re on a speedboat on the verge of getting sea sick but the adrenaline is keeping you focused.”
The release comes hot on the heels of earlier singles ‘Like No Other’ and ‘First Night Fever’, and arrives with a music video directed by longtime collaborator James Latter. Set on a picturesque farmsite and backed by support from Bundaberg Regional Council, the video captures the band doing what they do best—letting loose with a sense of humour and zero pretension.

It’s a timely drop, too—DZ are about to kick off a monster EU/UK summer tour that sees them hit stages across Poland, Germany, France, the Netherlands and the UK. They’ll be lighting up festival lineups like Rock For People (w/ Linkin Park and Fontaines D.C.), Mighty Sounds, and the UK’s beloved 2000trees, with support from Press Club, Battlesnake, and Mannequin Death Squad along the way.
