Pouring ourselves a big glass of Gordi this weekend.

You could be forgiven for not understanding just how *big* Gordi is. Having collaborated with the likes of Troye Sivan, Bon Iver, Ben Böhmer, Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers, racked up tens of millions of streams, and sold out shows around the world, you could argue she’s one of the biggest underground artists in/from Australia right now.

Her music embodies that spirit too, especially on today’s release Like Plasticine. It’s this ethereal and occasionally glitchy avant-pop that is totally alluring and borderline consuming. She sinks the hooks into listeners and refuses to let go, plucking at the heartstrings along the way.

“Today, as I finally set this album free, I am reminded of its beginning. Deep in the middle of the pandemic I began writing the songs that would make up ‘Like Plasticine’, wondering what the purpose of music was at all. I tried to stop thinking and just feel. When I look back on that time now, sitting in Phoenix Central Park surrounded by things I could make music with, I see ‘Like Plasticine’ arriving as though it was a fire hydrant erupting. Everything we try to contain comes out one way or another. So when you listen to this record, un-contain yourself, stop thinking, and just feel.”

It’s hard to give a take on this album after only a few spins (which is usually a sign of quality – even greatness) – it feels made for repeat listens, the kind of record you revisit every time you want to feel a certain way. Get started below:

Gordi is hitting the road with a string of Australian shows this August, including festival slots, intimate in-store performances and a special Sydney Opera House date in October, before heading to Europe for a run of September gigs and festival appearances.Follow her here for more info.
