As in very late – the Irish artist is now three albums deep into her career… but after spending the day absorbing her latest offering, EURO-COUNTRY, we’re kinda excited that there’s a whole back catalogue for us to dive into over the weekend.
But, back to EURO-COUNTRY, the album is like if Julia Jacklin was raised in Tennessee. CMAT’s vocals and harmonies are clean, but not polished, as she weaves her story over the twanged-out upbeat tunes. It’s one of those ones that will swim in your head for days if you allow it.
“The album title works on three levels: the kind of country music I make; the fact that Ireland is a European country, a country run by the euro, and capitalism is one of the worst things to ever happen to us. So I would consider this my most country record, as in, steeped in the traditions of country. But neither Oli [Deakin, Producer] or I wanted to make something that we’d heard before,” CMAT says.

And if the record wasn’t enough, CMAT is barely pausing for breath. Fresh off a Glastonbury set that’s already being called career-defining, she’s out on a relentless run of shows with The Very Sexy CMAT Band – from sold-out arenas across the UK and Ireland to festival stages like Primavera, Green Man and Pukkelpop.
No word on an Aus tour… yet. Stay tuned.
