Sydney artist Julia Camille has been on our radar since she dropped her debut track ‘Falling In And Out Of Place’ back in 2024. Swaggering and full of gusto, that release feels a million miles away from where she’s at right now, with her latest single ‘Butterflies’ taking an entirely different sonic form.
Layered with airy synths and open-ended piano lines, and driven by her ethereal vocals, it builds a textural soundscape that completely immerses you. It’s underpinned by a low beat that mirrors the soft pulse of a heartbeat, creating a full-body experience as you listen.
Lyrically, the song centres on the idea of preserving – and, in turn, killing – insects, which Camille uses as a jumping-off point to examine her own transformation and emotional paralysis.
The accompanying visuals, shot by Nicholas Green, perfectly suit its dreamlike tone, with washed-out black-and-white frames adding to the surrealness of it all…
