It’s not often you see the world’s best surfers – we counted 15 world champs in the room – dressed in anything but wetsuits and WSL jerseys. But last night, at the RACV Torquay Resort, the who’s who of surfing turned up in their best attire, and we have to say, they scrubbed up pretty nice.
The night saw last year’s CT winners Yago Dora and Central Coast’s finest Molly Picklum honoured with their title trophies, as well as Isla Huppatz and Dane Henry getting the WSL Junior trophies, Rachael Tilly and Kai Ellice-Flint taking home the Longboard trophies, and Kauli Vaast and Tya Zebrowski recognised as the top-ranked qualifiers from the Challenger Series, while Rookies of the Year were honoured alongside the Impact Awards and Vissla Shaper Rankings winners.
Beyond the trophy handouts, it was a night to celebrate 50 years of the WSL, which has grown from humble beginnings into a global stage for the world’s best surfers, shaping the sport into what it is today. Count the GOATs in the gallery above:
