About halfway through this episode of VV Tapes, Ryan Callinan drops a bit of wisdom…
“I love surf trips. How good are they?” says Ryan with the sun setting behind him, as the Rivvia team move on to the next wave down the East Coast of Aus. It pretty much sums up the whole vibe of the first episode of VV Tapes, which sees Julian Wilson, Callinan, Mateus Herdy, Cadin Francis and Manning Gregory seemingly on a mission to pull rotations out of nowhere and carve like animals.
Longtime Rivvia/Julian Wilson collaborator Jimmy Lees kills it behind the lens, delivering a 10-minute film that goes way too fast, with some glorious in-water cinematography from Dave Fox. The soundtrack is perfectly curated too, swaying between dreamy psych and lo-fi rock, giving the video an ethereal but grounded feel. *Chef’s kiss*.
