The last few weeks have been pretty full on for millennials in terms of tour announcements, with Radiohead, QOTSA and now The Strokes all headed Down Under in the next nine months.
And I say this as a diehard Radiohead fan, I think The Strokes is going to be wayyyy more fun. Not just because the music is more upbeat and dancey, but because the band seem to be having a fair bit of fun both in and out of the studio over the past couple of years…
Reality Awaits is their most sarcastic (‘Going Shopping’), dark (‘Psycho Shit’, ‘Tyrants of the Mellow Moon’) and straight-up funny (‘Lonely In The Future’) album all at once. It feels like they’re really not trying to impress anyone and I reckon they’re loving all the people whinging about the autotune. After all, why would they care?
Anyhooo. They’re coming to Aus for a run of East Coast shows in February, including a massive one at Sydney’s new Summertime concert series with none other than Beck in support – sheeeeesh.
The tour kicks off at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on February 13th, followed by two nights at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on February 16th and 17th, with Courtney Barnett and Promiseland joining all four shows. The Strokes will then headline the first-ever Sydney Summertime at Centennial Park on February 20th alongside Beck, Courtney Barnett and Promiseland.
Tickets go on sale at 1pm local time on Tuesday, September 29th, with presales kicking off the day before.
