Peking Duk got political in Sydney last night, starting a ‘Fuck Mike Baird’ chant that rang throughout The Enmore Theatre.

It goes without saying that the chant was a direct response to the current melee surrounding Sydney’s lockout laws, which have been slammed by musicians and artists all around the country. Everybody from Flume to The Preatures to Alison Wonderland have spoken out against the legislation, while Ember recently crafted a 50-minute ‘Life Before Lockouts’ mix to herald Sydney’s club scene and the artists who developed their careers in nightspots across the once vibrant city.

Indeed, Sydney’s club circuit played a crucial role in the creation of Peking Duk, as outlined in their anti-lockout essay penned on Facebook:

Sydney for us, 4ish years ago, is the city that fuelled everything for us as young and excited musicians. Our base and fundamental beginnings were entirely dependent on the culture we once had with Sydney’s clubs, before the lockout laws were imposed. Honestly, if it wasn’t for opportunities we were given at joints like Chinese Laundry and the clubs of Kings Cross, we would never have had the vision of making music into a career.
