Diplo has dabbled in everything from electonica to dancehall, but throughout his career he’s kept his feet firmly rooted in hip-hop. Now, he’s dropped an extensive mix celebrating the Golden Era of the genre for BBC Radio 1.

No, we’re not going to go on a weird tangent about how much better rap music was in the nineties, but there’s plenty of classics jammed into this mix that’ll give you that unmistakable, soulful sound and feeling. New York is represented by the likes of Nas, DITC, Kool G Rap and Biggie, while the West Coast is honoured by Ice Cube & Tupac. There’s also some jams from the legendary Stones Throw stable, courtesy of Madvillain and Peanut Butter Wolf. Diplo also serves up some Pimp C (RIP) right after the release of his documentary ‘Long Live The Pimp‘.

Listen below, and hope for Diplo to return to Australia soon – and fingers crossed that Major Lazer come along for the ride, too!
