Splendour In The Grass went on sale this morning, and surprise surprise, it sold out once again!

With a lineup like this, it’s no surprise that punters got their clicking fingers ready for the July soiree – with reports that an unprecedented amount of people were clogging up the Moshtix website to secure a ticket. However, if you missed out, don’t fret – you can still grab tickets through the SITG resale facility. Plus, there are sideshows coming tomorrow! See details here:

In anticipation for the festival, we’ve highlighted 10 acts that’ll get you wet, no matter the weather. See our picks for SITG 2016 below, and see you up in Byron Bay!

The Strokes (only Australian show)

Indie favourites The Stokes have provided nearly everyone with an anthem song during some stage of their life – most likely one that was defined by skinny jeans and a fringe. Now you get to live it with their only Australian show, and it’s going to be nothing short of monumental. The New York lads – led by the ‘don’t care’ charisma of Julian Casablancas – got it right in 2006 with their track ‘You Only Live Once’ so make sure you catch this headline set, prepped with your best leather jacket. YOLO, indeed.

The Avalanches (only Australian show)

The influence of Australian electronic legends The Avalanches can’t be underestimated, and we’re expecting turntables, keyboards, choirs, and some seriously fun vibes when they make their highly-anticipated return at Splendour In The Grass. There’s a reason that Triple J waited until the last minute to announce The Avalanches’ appearance – they were saving the best for last. This is kinda like a big deal. The Avalanches haven’t released anything since 2012, so expect some pure flames.

Flume

In his relatively short career, Flume’s more tasteful approach to beat-making has changed the way we think about electronic music and placed Australia as a taste-making front-runner in the genre. Flume finally announced that his sophomore album Skin would be dropping on May 27 – with the likes of ‘Wall Fuck’ and ‘Never Be Like You’ suggesting that it’s going to be an experimental and exciting listen. Just today, he released another silky vocal collaboration with Tove Lo titled ‘Say It’.

James Blake

James Blake’s music may favour the moody and down-tempo, but his mesmerising grip on crowds is something to be marveled. The English producer and singer-songwriter from London will have crowds in an aerial trance with his soothing vocals and the smooth, subdued bass. With two albums under his belt and another on the way starring Bon Iver and Kanye West, we’re predicting that Blake’s mellow rhythms will have everyone melting into the mud. ‘The Wilhelm Scream’ and ‘Limit To Your Love’ will have the crowd in a hypnotic sway.

James Vincent McMorrow (only Australian show)

James Vincent McMorrow‘s affinity with Australia continues, having played Falls Festival, Southbound and the Sydney Opera House. Now, the Irish troubadour will grace Splendour with his falsetto-wielding folk-electronic tracks. With smash hits on both albums Early in the Morning and Post Tropical, we can only imagine how many people will be swooning over this ridiculously sultry set.

The Cure

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GkVhgIeGJQ

Brooding rock legends The Cure formed in 1976, and now Robert Smith and his band of goth veterans – sporting eyeliner and at least 20 bottles of hairspray per band member – will grace us with their presence. Weirdly enough, there’s been a 2000s emo resurgence over the past few months, and many of your favourite teenage angst anthems owe their sound and bleak outlook to The Cure. The English icons will be hitting us with a heavy dose of nostalgia, and we’re expecting lots of dancing and even more crying when they hit Byron Bay.

What So Not

We couldn’t help but smile when What So Not was announced as a late addition for Groovin The Moo, preceded by a surprise performance at Coachella last weekend. Now, he’ll be bringing all of the bangers to Australia’s biggest festival. With originals and remixes aplenty, prepare for familiar tunes and a few new numbers drizzled in bass and hi-hats. We wouldn’t be surprised if George Maple also climbs onstage for some vocal assistance.

Sticky Fingers

Sticky Fingers’ fusion of reggae, rock and everything in between makes for a dangerous cocktail of guaranteed loose times. We just caught these lads at one of their three sold-out shows on their home turf at The Enmore Theatre, and we can guarantee that punters will be in for a treat. Be prepared to cop a foot and/or elbow in the face as everyone decides to crowd surf at the same time. In the meantime, head over to The Lord Gladstone, where Sticky Fingers have been immortalised in the pub’s stained-glass window.

Gang of Youths

Speaking of Inner-West legends, our favourite local rock crew Gang of Youths also sold out The Enmore Theatre last Saturday. Their album The Positions catapulted the band to earn five ARIA nominations last year, and it’s not hard to see why – this is deeply personal, emotionally-driven music that hits you right in the feels. What results is a cathartic live show that’ll feature mass sing-a-longs and riffs aplenty.

Golden Features

Hard beats & lots of mud. Need we say more? Golden Features will get messy.
