After recently performing in Coachella, releasing her solo EP and some huge collaborations with the likes of What So Not and Tkay Maidza, George Maple returns with some fire with Washington DC rapper GoldLink. Australians might already be familiar with GoldLink from his recent rampaging sets at Laneway Festival, as well as a tune with Chet Faker a few years back.
Set in a strip club, ‘Sticks & Horses’ features dollar bills flying, a Corvette, fur coats and stilettos plus someone wrapped in duct tape – the track packs a punch and the video brings a darker sensuality. Heavy bass and trap elements provide a moody soundtrack as the Australian singer glides elegantly over the top, sticking the whole concept together.
Maple says that this track and clip “is a tale of revenge, sex, money, power and greed. It is a theatrical play on my own experiences.” After spending some time in the USA, she was fascinated by the confronting experience of strip clubs – a world away from the small coastal town she grew up in. She goes on to say that “it’s the perfect setting to tell the story. It was very liberating to express myself in this new medium. I hope you feel sexy and express yourself to this track.”
