While Beyonce wowed us all with her politically-inclined performance of ‘Formation’ at the Super Bowl, the R&B queen may have just one-upped herself with her opening show at the BET Awards.

Arriving with a crew of back-up dancers while a speech by Martin Luther King Jr. played in the background, Beyonce performed her Lemonade track ‘Freedom’ in a haze of red lights before Kendrick Lamar arrived for his guest verse on the song. During the song’s outro, the two splashed in a shallow pool of water to the tracks cathartic, rock-infused refrain.
