One Day Give Their Top Six Tips On How To Host A Successful House Party
The veterans have spoken.

The worst part about graduating from high school and heading into the tumultuous world of tertiary education is the steady decline in the number of house parties you attend.

The glory days of house parties were defined by goon of fortune, a time when liquor was purchased at a drive-thru bottle-o and your soundtrack of choice was a mere AUX cord away. There was no cover charge, no imaginary guestlist and certainly no dickhead bouncer telling you that your Air Max were inappropriate. Since landing last year, Oxjam has been encouraging Australians to host their own parties – from warehouse jams to lounge room soirees – in order to raise funds and fight poverty across the country. It’s seen hundreds of people sign up and register their events for a good cause, and one crew who have gotten involved is One Day.

The hip-hop supergroup has offered to headline a house party registered by one lucky winner, and trust us, these guys know a thing or two about partying. They’ve played countless club shows, plenty of festivals, thrown their own festival and also the country’s biggest monthly block party in One Day Sundays. They even opened from Drake in 2015, and Champagne Papi definitely knows how to ball out on the nightlife circuit. Of course, all of One Day’s on-road turn-up skills were fine-tuned during their formative years of house parties in the Inner West, so we asked them to offer five tips on how to host an event for the ages.

What’s more, the lads have provided five tunes that will always get the dancefloor poppin’ with vigour. See below for their tips and top tracks, while you can register your own Oxjam event all throughout August right here. Furthermore, Oxjam will be teaming up with I Oh You Records for a Melbourne gig tonight – see all the details here:

1. Make sure you throw your party at your own house

There’s nothing worse than hosting a great house party, only to realise when it’s 11pm and the living room is rocking, that the people in those photos on the wall aren’t the people you live with. Be sure to double check the address on the invite to make sure it’s your house before things get awkward!

2. Stock up on toilet paper

You knew when you invited Blake that he would probably do that mummy gag where he wraps himself in toilet paper and wanders around stiff-limbed, dropping corny pickup lines like “Are you from the prosperous river delta next to the pyramids? Coz every time you say you won’t kiss me all I’m hearing is De Nile.” You knew he would do it. You knew.

3. Be sure to write BYO on the invite

But be sure not to be specific. You are now covered for anything you forgot to grab, like chips, plates or toilet paper for that creep Blake.

4. Baby-proof the kitchen

Just in case.

5. No crying

Don’t kill the mood, you sook. If you’re going to cry, slink away to your bedroom and knock it over in 5 minutes. Please don’t make a scene. I’m begging you. Not again.

6. Know how to deal with gate crashers

Everything is going great, the music is pumping, you don’t remember hiring a smoke machine but it’s made the vibe in the living room top notch. Then a knock at the door…. KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. But everyone is already here? You look through the peep hole. It’s Greg. “Let me in, man. I’m being chased by some guy with a knife!” Hang on… Didn’t you just see Greg looking for toilet paper? “Please man open the door!” Someone taps you on the shoulder. It’s Greg, holding a 4 pack of Sorbent. “Who is it bro?” … “It’s…. It’s you.” Toilet paper Greg holds the door shut and says, “whoever that is, it’s not me. I’m here. You can’t let him in.” Outside Greg hears him and starts frantically banging on the door. “I swear I’m Greg! Please, this guy is gonna kill me! Indoor Greg is an imposter!” I know what I would do. Do you?
