Volumes is back in 2016, bringing two nights of Australia’s best talent across four venues on Sydney’s famed Oxford Street stretch. It’s a mammoth showing on Friday and Saturday night, with the likes of Dro Carey, Rainbow Chan, Adi Toohey and Andy Garvey spearheading an eclectic line-up of underground and indie talent. Our spiritual home, Oxford Art Factory will be hosting much of the action, while just a heartbeat away The Cliff Dive and The Burdekin will also be hosting acts. Simply cross the road to Brighton Up Bar for more action, and this Oxford Square hub is going to be Sydney’s best and busiest this weekend. Get involved, we promise there’s something for everyone!
Famed Australian artist Mark Drew has returned home for his first solo show since 2013, and it’s going down tonight. Taking place up the creaky stairs of China Heights Gallery in the heart of Surry Hills – which was also co-founded by Drew – he’ll be showing his playful works which draw inspiration from hip-hop culture and iconic animations. While the exhibition will be open all weekend, there’ll be opening beverages in a few hours – head on down and witness an #art show that’s a little more fun and a little less pretentious.
Red Bull are back with another Sound Select gig that continues their dedication to fostering local and emerging talents. Curated by the tastemakers at I OH YOU records, this edition will feature Gold Class, Straight Arrows and You Beauty. If you RSVP online, entry is just $3! Good luck getting anything else worthwhile in Sydney for a couple of gold coins, head down to Plan B Small Club for some quality tunes at a fraction of the price.
Emotive electronica duo Left will be headlining their own hometown show in support of their brand new single ‘Slow Release‘, taking place at Oxford Circus just a short stroll from Taylor’s Square. They’ll also be bringing a live drummer along to amp up those energy levels, while Eisteddfod aka Joyride will be on support duties with an acoustic set. On top of ‘Slow Release’, vocalist Sarah Corry has just collaborated with local hip-hop mainstay Hau on ‘Sleep’ – have a listen to the gem right here. Pre-sale tickets are sold out, but try your luck on the Facebook event here or on the door!
The Kanye West & Taylor Swift feud is coming to life this weekend at Plan B Small Club! This tumultuous relationship has taken more twists and turns than we can count, it’s featured secretly recorded phone conversations and award ceremony interruptions, and the whole thing was probably an orchestrated marketing tactic. Still, that doesn’t deter from the fact that both artists have a host of bangers in their respective catalogues! One room dedicated to Yeezy, and the other pumping tunes from T-Swizzle – where will you be spending your time. Pre-sale tickets have sold out, but there will be $20 door sales from 9:00pm – we suggest getting down early.
