UPDATE: Die Antwoord have denied the claims made by Exclaim in a new post to Instagram, seen below:

On the verge of releasing their new album Mount Ninja & Da Nice Time Kid next week, Die Antwoord have saddened fans by announcing their impending dissolution.

According to an interview with Exclaim, Ninja confirmed that the group will be breaking up in September 2017. “Die Antwoord dies on that day. It’s all over. I feel beautiful about it. I’m not scared of the end. I’m a Ninja. I’m not scared of death,” he says. The news seems to confirm the promise that Die Antwoord made at the beginning of their career: That they would make five albums and ‘disappear’. Mount Ninja & Da Nice Time Kid will be their fourth full-length.

Aside from next week’s album, Die Antwoord have also revealed grand plans before their demise, including an art exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Modern Art Africa in Cape Town, as well as a gangster film that will also serve as a retrospective look at the group. “There’s this movie we’re making called South African Ninja, that we’ve been working on forever — literally like ten years — and we’ve just been finishing it off now,” Ninja says.

“That’s been our well that we’ve been drinking from and drawing from since the beginning of Die Antwoord. We actually started writing it before Die Antwoord. So, it’s been in the background for all of our ideas, which have all come from this film. It’s a South African gangster film that has African ninjas in it. Everything in the film is fictitious, like a regular movie, but it’s hard and raw, and everything has some parallel to our lives, so it’s got a surreal connection to everything,” he continues.

Along with the sadness, there is some good news – Die Antwoord have also revealed another track from Mount Ninja & Da Nice Time Kid, pleasantly titled ‘Fat Faded Fuck Face’. Listen to it below, as well as previously released album tracks ‘Banana Brain’ and ‘We Have Candy’. Remember that Die Antwoord will also be heading to Australia at the end of 2016 to perform at Origin NYE in Perth, which might be the last time Australian fans will be able to see them live.
