Our favourite ladies squad GIRLS is returning to Hudson Ballroom – formerly Plan B & Goodgod Small Club – with residents Yemisul, Anissa and Ebony Boadu coming in hot alongside special guest Liz Bird. Expect the best in hip-hop and grime from 11:00pm, with Yemisul providing us with this nifty little mix to prepare our earholes for the party. The mix is titled Boss Lady Sex Anthems and is filled with classic bonking anthems from Rihanna to Khia. Need we say more? Someone make ‘My Neck, My Back’ the national anthem already.
Bring out the streamers! We love a birthday shindig, and Sydney’s favourite live music venue, Oxford Art Factory will be celebrating nine years of hosting internationals, locals and emerging talent. The lads from our spiritual home wrote us this retrospective piece about some of their favourite gigs since 2007 – with the likes of Lady Gaga, Tame Impala, Crystal Castles, Ellie Goulding, Grimes, Foals and more playing on the holy OAF stage. There’s been a lot of fun times, and we’ll celebrate them all at the birthday with longtime LWA faves Skegss, Dorsal Fins, High-Tails and more. It’s free with RSVP and there’s gonna be hot dogs! Free tunes, free feed, sign us up.
Streetwear bros Geedup Co have been going from strength to strength with every season, and they’re welcoming Spring with a good ol’ fashioned block party in their Darlinghurst headquarters. Located on Flinders Street just a heartbeat away from Taylor’s Square, it all kicks off at midday with tunes, beers and BBQ. You can also score some sales from previous seasons and check out the latest range, while Main Street and Kwame – the same guy who took over the Internet with his rampaging freestyle at ASAP Ferg’s gig – will be performing live. Get familiar with Geedup in our interview here and head down for some daytime fun on Saturday.
Player Hater’s Ball is going all-out with the Canadian love this Saturday night, with a special OVO vs XO edition to celebrate Drizzy, The Weeknd and their numerous affiliates. By now, everybody knows that their collaboration ‘Crew Love’ is the best (and most butchered) club sing-a-long of all time, so prepare for a long night of melodic crooning, emotional bars and crying in the corner. As per usual, Triple J’s Shantan Wantan Ichiban is on the decks with content queen Flexmami – did you see her zinger article from Wednesday? – with guests Tulett and pink-haired wonder Mowgli May.
Need a Sunday recovery session? It’s Marco Polo season! Head to The Ivy’s opulent poolside space – which we named as one of our essential summer drinking spots – and bask in the rays with tunes from Dom Dolla and Barney Cools advocate Poolclvb. If you haven’t lost steam and/or have Monday off work, head into Changeroom downstairs for even more nice times after the sun sets. Most of the tickets for this one are sold out, but try your luck on the Facebook event linked above or make a fashionably late arrival after 8:00pm.
