Yes, the Australian summer is on its way!

If you’re sitting in an office today, you’re probably sweating and asking your boss to install some bloody air conditioning. While it’s just under a month until summer officially kicks off, we’ve compiled some essential new Australian songs that’ll soundtrack the upcoming season – and when we say new, we mean that they’ve been released this year. From beer-drenched rock to electronica heaters, we’ve covered all ends of the sonic spectrum and kept it local.

Add these to your summer playlist and celebrate Australian talent right here:

SPIT SYNDICATE – INHIBITIONS

Coming off their more assertive Inner-West anthem ‘2042 Come Up‘, veteran rap duo Spit Syndicate put their shades on and kick into vacation mode with ‘Inhibitions’, their latest single from a forthcoming album due in early 2017. Following down the sun-soaked paths explored in ‘Know Better’, the track’s silky smooth hook is an absolute treat, while bouncing production from Styalz Fuego ensures that this will be on repeat poolside.

TKAY MAIDZA & MARTIN SOLVEIG – DO IT RIGHT

There was a time when rap and dance crossovers were the most dreaded collaborations in modern music history, but thankfully the stream has slowed down and we’ve been left with some absolute pearlers. ‘Do It Right’ is a summer banger in every sense of the word – playful percussion and synths merge effortlessly with Tkay Maidza’s melodic and repetitive refrains, making this one of the year’s catchiest singles with endless replay value. Tkay’s freshly released debut album has some heaters on there, too!

RAINBOW CHAN – LAST

Straight out of Astral People’s formidable roster, Rainbow Chan is delivering pop music with a distinct indie aesthetic and a strong sense of storytelling. While she’s classically trained, she displays her diversity on ‘Work’ with ghostly vocals resting on top of thumping, driven production. It’s taken from her debut album Spacings which is still working its way into earholes after an August release.

L D R U – NEXT TO YOU FT. SAVOI

What do you think of whenever an L D R U song plays? We get crystal-clear images of unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts and Calippos (lemon flavour) falling out of a cloudless sky. Hot off his omnipresent single ‘Keeping Score’ – which even earned a remix from The Meeting Tree – L D R U keeps the temperature rising with ‘Next To You’. Savoi’s vocals build into a fun-filled drop that was made for festivals, and the video of this song features an animate banana wearing a turtleneck. Good times had by all!

DUNE RATS – BULLSHIT

Brisvegas boys Dune Rats are the long-haired yahoos with a knack for mischief, which they display unashamedly on ‘Bullshit’. Merging catchy riffs with punk rock singalongs, this is perfect for backyard and house party shenanigans – which they display in the video which features a giant skateboarding bong, vomiting, watermelon, DIY tattoos and everyone in the general vicinity covered in beer. This is what summer is supposed to look like.

PACES – WORK ME OUT FT. RYE RYE

It’s been a big year for Paces. Not only did he drop his debut album Vacation, but he managed to link up with Guy Sebastian on Like A Version and once again on his single ‘Desert’. The title Vacation and the picture a fruit platter on the cover should tell you that Paces is all about warm, tropical-inspired sounds that lend to everybody’s carefree tendencies – and the accompanying tangy vocals make Rye Rye collaboration ‘Work Me Out’ is a perfect example.

MARIBELLE – SHOUT

While Maribelle released her debut Overtake EP this year, she’s already collaborated with international heavyweights like Djemba Djemba and just stepped off a tour with Kaytranada. Drawing equally from pop and the mopre infectious relams of dance, Maribelle’s video for ‘Shout’ is hypercolour fun and a solid display of dancefloor inspiration. Outside of making music, Maribelle also runs her own Crush Club imprint and Defs Not publishing company. Big vibes!
