The Countdown To FOMO parties kick off across New South Wales tomorrow – getting us prepared for the real deal come January 2017 – and now we have an exclusive mix from Feki to give us a taste of the warm-up shenanigans.

Feki will be performing at the Countdown To FOMO parties (and FOMO festival itself) alongside Slumberjack in Rouse Hill, Newcastle and Mona Vale, which looks to bring the party to the smaller towns and communities in the state. Still, we’re betting that these gigs will be just as rowdy if not substantially rowdier than anything you’ll find in the CBD – and Feki has stepped in for a 24-minute teaser to show us what he’ll be doing behind the decks.

While he might be known for his more intricate and restrained approach to electronica, Feki can still get the dancefloor poppin’ – and his mix includes contemporary Australian electronica pioneers like Chet Faker, Ta-ku and Flume, all of whom similarly pull from more soulful influences with their beat-making. Feki has included some of his own remixes and originals in the cut, making for some easy afternoon listening.

You can listen to Feki’s Countdown To FOMO mix below, where you’ll also find a quick interview with the man himself. Grab your tickets to Countdown To FOMO here:

Coming from Brisbane, how do you think the inaugural FOMO festival in 2016 affected the Sunshine State’s electronic/dance scene?

It’s definitely brought a better festival culture to Brisbane.

You’ll be playing the Countdown to FOMO parties and FOMO itself. How do you think you’re going to approach each event differently?

I’ll be treating these shows as if people have never heard of me. So I’ll be playing sets that will resonate more so with the crowd but with my own tasteful spin on it. I’ll still be playing a lot of original and unreleased music tho. That’s always a must when you’re a producer haha.

Countdown To FOMO will be hitting Newcastle. Who is the better Newy export: Andrew Johns or Daniel Johns?

Haha I used to play Rugby League, so for me it’s Joey Johns for sure.

Who are you looking forward to seeing more at FOMO: Metro Boomin or Desiigner?

Oh Metro Boomin hands down. The hits this guy has produced are just huge so for me its an obvious choice.

Your live sets in the past have featured some notable guests. Do you have anything special planned for FOMO? Has your live show shifted at all?

I’m still piecing together and figuring out what it is I want my ‘live’ show to be. But yeah, we’re definitely looking at doing something special, especially for my home city in Brisbane.

What’s the worst case of FOMO you’ve ever had in your entire life?

Missing out on Jamie xx live last year.

Are there any chances of you remixing Fergie’s entire catalogue?

Haha not planning on it all, but who knows ;)

What new tunes are you working on at the moment?

I’ve been saying this for a long time but I’m still trying to piece together an EP that I can be proud of. I’ve had 2 EP’s that were pretty much ready to go but then I bailed on them in the last minute. So right now, just writing a whole bunch of new music. Next year is the year though. No more flaking around!

What does Feki want for Christmas this year?

Twisties Zig Zags. Those things are impossible to find anywhere, smh.
