Earlier this year, artist Brett Piva embarked on an ambitious drive from his hometown of Newcastle down to Taranna, Tasmania.

He spent four weeks exploring the natural landscape along the east coast of Australia’s most underrated state – and now his experiences have formed his very first solo exhibition titled For The Devil Down South. Displaying at Goodspace Gallery in Sydney this Wednesday night, the exhibition will show Brett’s abstract interpretations of Tasmanian nature, weaved effortlessly with his love of lettering. What results is a fascinating fusion of imagery and text that still references the most awe-inspiring patters created by Mother Nature.

Furthermore, he says that all words comprise of “traditional gold leaf application on glass with enamels hand painted in reverse to reveal an elegant design on the face of each piece.” In theme with the show, a small percentage of each work sold will go towards Devil Ark, a program aiming to preserve the Tasmanian Devil. Brett filmed some of his Tasmanian adventures for an insight into his creative process – you can watch the video below alongside a preview of his works.

For the full thing, head down to Goodpspace Gallery this Wednesday evening from 6:00pm:
