Remember when dubstep got really, really weird and ended up sounding like robot sex noises? If you want to return to that bass-heavy era of your life, then you’ll be chuffed to hear that Excision is still conquering the world one drop at a time, and he’s still playing some very sizeable venues. Eight-Six will be presenting his Sydney date at Enmore Theatre, so be prepare for some wobbles in the Inner-West.
It’s been one year since we said goodbye to the legendary Goodgod Small Club, while the space has continued to throw some of the city’s best parties. Now known as Hudson Ballroom, some of the venue’s favourite residents will be joining forces and dropping bangers this Saturday for the first birthday. There’s Southern rap from Halfway Crooks, erratic electronica from Sidechains and all things Caribbean from Dutty Dancing. Best of all? It’s free, all night long.
Club 77’s new hip-hop night, Glowed Up is now in its third week and continues to team some of the city’s favourite selectors with one live act on headline duties. This week, we have Shantan Wantan Ichiban, Swiss Dank, FlexMami, Jerk Jiggler and the Strxnger crew, who’ll also be throwing it down on Christmas Eve at The Lady Hampshire. On microphone duties are the hypercolour, hyperactive emcees from Cult Shotta, who released one of our favourite local releases of 2016 with ‘No Fatigue’.
Seasoned Australian favourites Yolanda Be Cool will be kicking onto Beach Rd Hotel this weekend in another edition of YOURS – with the 2026 favourite set to pop with the addition of Jack Kennedy, Jess and Bruno Who.
The Lord Gladstone is hosting another free rap jam this Saturday night – they’ve recently moved the festivities indoors which means that the rooms are fuller and the music is louder. Good times for all! This month, local faves like Swiss Dank, Cache One, Kimchi Princi, Atro and Cache are teaming up with interstate imports who will be dropping all the hip-hop anthems you can handle.
