He’s been a stalwart of the Melbourne underground dance scene since forever but producer Roland Tings has gone from little tings to big tings this past couple of years; after the release of his LP, that triple j made a feature album, the rest of the world caught on to Roland’s bouncy, smart dance music and since then he’s toured supporting Chet Faker and internationally with Future Classic, and recently played an epic NYE set in the dance tent at Beyond the Valley.

Still warm from racking up Laneway love across the county, today this ascendant electronic producer releases a new track, Higher Ground, that sees him team up with Nylo – an alt R & B singer born in Chicago whose pretty poppin’ in the States, with NAS having given her the nod – on vocals. The production is more centred than Tings’ previous offerings – Higher Ground has a light, tropical soft-pop vibes –  Tings’ characteristic synth quirks are still present, just pared back. Nylo brings a very likeable Solange-ish sensibility to the whole thing. Listen below:

It’s off his forthcoming EP Each Moment A Diamond which will be out 10th March (and is the first release since his debut album). Tings’ take on the track is as thus: “I’m so excited to share my new track Higher Ground. Written between the back streets of Melbourne, a mountain cabin in Tasmania and the suburbs of LA, it’s the result of a lot of hard work and I couldn’t be more proud of how it came together.”

Tings takes to the road over the next few months, performing DJ sets and helping ol m8s RUFUS out on their regional tour (after playing shows Stateside with them not long ago). Find the remaining dates HERE. Then after the EP release Tings will be performing solo shows celebrating the new stuff at the following locales:
