While his latest Australian tour has been marred by controversial online scuffs with local journalists and photographers, that didn’t stop a healthy crowd from filling out The Metro Theatre for a headline show during his Groovin The Moo festival run. Brown’s unique catalogue – a mix of Detroit ruggedness and gutteral electronica, delivered straight from the Fool’s Gold vault – is reflected in the audience comprising of rap heads, eshays and hipsters, all of whom make for a hyperactive concoction when Brown hit Sydney.
With Manu Crooks and ZelooperZ providing support, DJ SKYWLKR walked onstage and got the crowd heated with bangers from Waka Flocka Flame, Migos and local queen Alison Wonderland. Brown ripped the stage with ravenous sing-a-longs like ‘Smokin & Drinkin’ as well as ASAP Rcoky collabo ‘Kush Coma’, while things got woozy with his Purity Ring produced track ’25 Bucks’. The chaos-inducing ‘Attak’ was another clear highlight, with Rustie’s jabbing synths making for an all-time energy high before closing with ‘Dip’.
