Party & Bullshit
Words by Harry Webber September 3, 2024

Last night, we found ourselves at Henson Park, the home ground of the Newtown Jets, which had been transformed into a paradise for whiskey and footy fans.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Buffalo Trace Distillery, the world’s most award-winning and the oldest continually operating distillery, the pitch was taken over for Australia’s Largest Whiskey Tasting event.

A spectacular 100-metre long table stretched from goalpost to goalpost, seating 300 eager guests ready to savor some of the finest whiskeys around. Guided tastings included four exceptional pours: the renowned Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon, the smooth Weller Special Reserve Wheated Bourbon, Sazerac Rye, and more. As we sipped, we indulged in delicious BBQ from Black Bear and washed it all down with local brews from Marrickville’s own Philter Brewing.

The atmosphere was electric, with comedian Andrew Barnett keeping us entertained and whiskey expert Gee David sharing fascinating insights and stories. If you missed out, don’t worry – you can still get your hands on these incredible whiskeys at local bottle shops like Dan Murphy’s and BWS.
