Party & Bullshit

Last night Sunset Sabi in Manly welcomed the first official Kirin Hyoketsu Ping Pong Social Club.

Legend has it that Ping Pong originated during a stormy night in Victorian England when it was too wet for posh poms to play tennis outside. Over the next sixty or so years, the humble “whiff-whiff” became a true global sport, flourishing especially in Japan after WWII, buoyed the fact that you can hold a drink in one hand while playing. This brings us to Kirin Hyotesku’s debut Ping Pong Social Club at Sunset Sabinin Manly last night.

With the the ping ping table constantly buzzing, we were treated to Sunset Sabi’s Japanese tasting menu as we sipped on Japan’s number one RTD, Kirin Hyoketsu. Coming in lemon, peach and the brand new lychee flavour, the Hyoketsu method uses a freezing technique to extract real fruit juice which, when combined with vodka and soda, is the perfect refreshment after a hard slog at the table.

As the Hyoketsus went down, the night became more about the social than the ping pong, with lucky attendees also able to snag a Kirin PPSC x R-Sport Jersey as a lasting momento of the night where they were “sooooooo close” to claiming the Sydney ping pong champ bragging rights.
