The focus of today was Nike’s newest Air Max silhouette, the 270. There’s a reason for all the attention thrust on the 270 so far: It boasts the tallest air unit in Nike history, with a beautiful wraparound bubble standing at 32mm. Last week, Nike teamed up with Alex Hackett aka Miniswoosh, the Australian designer who’s made a career from deconstructing Nike products into her own DIY creations, as well as one of the favourite entries from the ‘Vote Forward’ competition of 2017. Also on board was Christie Morgan, the brains behind local art, fashion and tech house Pitch Studios.
We were invited upstairs to the spacious rooftop of Curtin House, which was decorated with Nike lounge chairs made from dri-fit socks, beanbags made from duffel bags, and more swoosh-heavy items littered around the space. Under the lead of Alex and Christie, we were then handed iPads with a specialised App, where we could create our own Nike shirt designs from graphics and logos drawn from the 270 aesthetic.
Also, there was granola! Huge, we love granola. See all the action below, while Alex and Christie also collaborated on a moving visual projection of Air, which will be projected on the front of Curtin House from March 23-25, after dark. The Air Max Day celebrations wrap up this weekend, when Nike teams up with Boiler Room for a rooftop party on March 25:
