Hip hop was alive and well at The Lord Gladstone last night, inner west OG Phil Fresh taking to the hallowed stage for his long-awaited L.A.T.E. EP show (no pun intended). Flooded with industry figures and creatives alike, the Gladstone was a hub of energy, one that Fresh amplified by tenfold by the time he arrived on stage. Treating attendees to various renditions of the L.A.T.E. tracklisting (along with one acoustic Summer Walker cover that I can’t get out of my head), the Gladstone crowd was energised by the hybridised hip hop and R&B he was serving up.
The EP’s various feature artists also joined Phil on stage, the likes of Boy Soda, Kwame, Kymie and Dillon from Bread Club meshing with Phil’s his laid back flow and steeze with total synchronicity. Of course, the packed crowd got in on the action as well, singing and rapping the various lyrics back to him in an onslaught of rhythm and melody; most notably during an absent Rissa’s verse on ‘On The Low.’
A night that was filled with everything good about hip hop, R&B and live music as a whole. Catch up on all the action via the gallery above.
