We got there in time to see Chela lay out her alt-pop vibe to a still scattered crowd. Her young charisma showed when she jumped the fence and drew people in with her enticing vocals and inviting persona as she belted out a few of her well-known TripleJ favourite’s. Louis Futon then mixed up a mad, spacey set that sounded like something out of Interstellar. The Philly based act had no problem blending his downtempo chill with the boat-filled river backdrop and silky ambience the day had taken on.
Soul Clap. These two oven-roasted a funk set crunchier than McCains chips. Boston bred, the duo are well experienced in getting a crowd bumping – and that’s exactly what they did. LDRU came next and this guy KNOWS WHAT’S UP. His healthy mix of remixes and quality originals were exactly what the doctor ordered as we exploded into the second half of the day. A tropical, electronic sound and respect for music that makes the people dance is why this guy gets so much love on Unearthed and why he got even more of it at Sets.
Shit got serious as the sunset headliners ODESZA took the stage. Just their name on the ticket justified the sold-out crowd, and these high expectations were well met. With tunes like ‘Say my Name’, ‘Sun Models’ and ‘How Did I Get Here’ in their repertoire it was no surprise that their set dropped smoother than scotch on ice. Closing off with their tweeked out version of ZHU’s mega-hit ‘Faded’, ODESZA packed a final punch into what will remain a memorable set from the duo.
Tucked in as the final act of the night, SOSUEME DJ’s had a fucking ball playing tunes that transformed a sold out summer festival into one giant, raging, house party. They featured tunes from all over the place including current club killers ‘Swing’ and ‘Get Free’, plus a couple of your favourite 90’s RnB classics. This was all topped off with a wild ‘Killing in the Name Of’ from Rage Against the Machine, solidifying their out of control party set as the right one to close the night.
