The first thing we saw as we pulled up to The Bunt Live was a line stretching around the corner, packed with skaters of all ages and hardcore fans. In hindsight, it’s unsurprising that an event featuring some of the world’s best skaters, free music, and even some pyrotechnics would draw a massive crowd to Port Melbourne.
The skating was insane, with AFL goals giving The Bunt a distinctly Aussie vibe as the likes of Tom Schaar, Zion Wright, Chloe Covell, and Arissa Trew hurled themselves at the barn. Naturally, the crowd was downright raucous, only drowned out by blasts from the air horn.
By the time the awards were presented and the music started, we were more than ready to open up the pit. Béton Armé and Montreal’s FAZE revved the room into a frenzy before Sydney’s Primitive Blast took things up a notch as limbs flew in every direction.
Finally, Australia’s biggest hardcore success story since Parkway Drive, Speed, took to the stage with the ferocity and power anyone who’s seen their gigs knows well. Blasting through tracks from their ONLY ONE MODE LP—which has reached “classic” status in just a few months and garnered multiple ARIA nods—the band pummeled the crowd, track after track.
