Party & Bullshit

Splendour Sunday.

We can’t believe it’s over for another year. Here’s what we learnt from day three.

Presented By Carlton Dry

The eclectic mix of artists on Sunday’s line up kept things interesting.

The soul cats from Jungle, Lily Allen and Sam Smith’s pop persuasions, Group Love’s indie rock bangers and Darkside’s deep disco tunes all offered something different for every punter.

It was National Tree Day!

The eco warriors – complete with armour, fake ponies and jousting sticks – rounded up punters that were keen to get their hands a little dirty for National Tree Day. Vollies were trucked out of the main festival site so they could plant a tree. This is just one of the many initiatives SITG do to be a little bit friendlier to the beautiful grounds that now host it.

The sound quality was generally pretty solid and the crowd was well behaved.

Fans that packed-out the Amphitheatre were generally treated to good quality sound. However, we were a little disappointed that security guards closed off half the festival at midnight, even though it was meant to stay open til 2am. As for the crowd, a douchebag-free environment prevailed for most of the time.

The snacks abundant and awesome.

Whether you strolled through Truck Stop to grab a Harry’s chicken wrap, dined on meat and cheese platters or huge slices of pizza (which were only $5!) from Popolo, there was no way you could complain about being hungry. Also, the humble Yeman wrap stand was a favourite. A buttery, delicate flatbread is char-grilled and topped with egg, yoghurt, fresh herbs, spices, chicken and tomato. Okay, we know it sounds weird, but it’s a breakfast-lunch wrap in one, which is delicious.

We will be back next year, 110 per cent.

Every other day you read about a music festival folding, but if Splendour continues to offer the world class festival they managed to pull off this year, you will certainly be seeing us, and a lot of other people back here next year. Until then, Splendour.

As you wipe the tears from your eyes on the highway home, reminisce on the finer moments of SITG this year, and rock out to one of our favourites below.
