A few years ago, Stereosonic was Australia’s gargantuan dance event. Say what you want about this event and the countless memes featuring shirtless, muzzing bro attendees – Stereosonic brought a multi-stage mega-event to our doorstep which covered all corners of dance music, as well as plenty of support for local DJs and producers in each city it hit.
It’s been sorely missed over the past few years along with many of our other large-scale festivals, but today we have a taste of those glory days with this throwback gallery. It was a quiet Tuesday night in December, 2014 when murmurs began to spread online and IRL about an impromptu gig at Goodgod Small Club. Stereosonic stars were in town, and decided to link behind the decks at the sweaty venue, just a heartbeat from Chinatown.
Leading the charge was Skrillex, who brought along a bunch of his pals for a B2B2B2B set which included RL Grime, DJ Snake, Jack Beats, Wax Motif and more. You could practically see the sweat dripping down the walls as the crew ran through bass-heavy bangers until the early hours of the morning, leaving a trail of bodies behind.
Nowadays, Stereosonic doesn’t exist anymore, and Goodgod isn’t called Goodgod. Still, this will stand as one of the venue’s most envied shows for those who missed out – but it’s getting us extra keen for RL Grime’s upcoming Australian tour in July and appearance at Splendour In The Grass. Bring it on:
