We headed to one of our favourite Surry Hills haunts, The Norfolk, to have a few brews and burgers with the singer. At just 23 years old, Dave stands a few heads taller than everybody else in the room, and also bears a slight resemblance to WWE wrestler Roman Reigns. Luckily for us, he’s a gentle giant and is one of the more genuine and humble characters in the music industry.
Gang of Youth’s skyrocketing success has been nothing short of marvellous, with their cathartic album The Positions followed by a sold out national tour, and another ambitious run of dates kicking off this August. Indeed, The Positions was met with unanimous acclaim, and praised for its confronting rawness and admirable honesty.
Dave still seems to be wrapping his head around the band’s growing fanbase. We spoke about the future of the band and the dizzying past few months, as well as some casual talk about Slayer and Shania Twain – the two greatest musical artists of all time.
Thanks to The Norfolk for their friendly staff as well as their macaroni and cheese balls.
