Everybody loves a success story, and they don’t come much sweeter than The Rubens. Originally hailing from the small town of Menangle (the trustworthy source of Wikipedia tells us it has a humble population of 875), the lads hit No. 3 on the ARIA charts with their self-titled debut and became a staple on Triple J airwaves. Just last month, their sophomore effort ‘Hoops’ debuted at No. 2 – which means that if all goes to plan, their next album will be No.1!

Now, The Rubens are in the midst of an epic national tour that will see them play over 20 shows across the country – many of which are sold out. Before they hit the open road, we managed to snag a few moments with the lads for another episode of ‘Behind The Bar’ to talk about recording ‘Hoops’ and how great Outkast are. Spoiler: They are really great.

Our location of choice was Mary’s in Newtown, the undisputed Burger Mecca in this part of town – and we decided to treat ourselves with some fried chicken and a few Budweisers, too. Did we mention how excited we are for Mary’s collaboration pub coming to Paddington later this year? We can’t wait.
