Blast from the past…

Merging old with new and setting it on a one way course for utter success, a movie version of David Hasselhoff’s Knight Rider series is headed to the big screen, with horror extraordinaire and Aquaman director James Wan set to produce. The acclaimed series that ran from 1982 to 1986 starred Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a mysterious agent for the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG). His main sidekick (and essentially the other star of the show) was the the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT), a technologically advanced Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that Hoff’s character drove throughout the series.

The movie is said to have a “present-day take” on the Knight Rider mythology, and is said to focused on maintaining the “anti-establishment tone of the original”. It’s unclear at this stage whether Hasselhoff will be returning to the series as the main character, but surely at the very least he’ll be coming back for a sneaky cameo.

Wan’s production company Atomic Monster has some mad credits to its name, producing Malignant (currently in post production), Mortal Kombat and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Critically acclaimed video game writer TJ Fixman is also set to write the screenplay, his past credits including everyone’s favourite childhood video game Ratchet and Clank, The Rubber Guns and Resistance: Fall of Man.

We’re definitely keen to see this new take on the beloved series. Check the original show intro to get a feel for what to expect from the new blockbuster (minus the classic 80s music of course).
