In the strangest news of 2020, ‘Baby Shark’ has become the most-viewed video on YouTube, clocking in at over 7.04 billion views. The well known children’s bop was first released in June of 2016 by South Korean company Pinkfong, and was an instant hit with kids from the get-go. So much so in fact, that the tune ended up at no. 6 in the UK singles charts, while hitting no. 32 in the US. It even overtook ‘Despacito,’ which was fucking massive when it first came out.
Interestingly, it’s still unclear who the actual writer of the track is. We do know the vocalist is 10-year-old singer Hope Segoine however, but somehow we doubt we’re gonna find out who’s actually responsible for the annoyingly catchy hit (and accompanying dance moves) any time soon.
Pinkfong released a new, COVID-19 version of the song this year however (which has around 26 million views), geared toward encouraging kids to stay safe in the midst of a global pandemic, with its lyrics reading ‘wash your hands doo doodoodoodoo‘ and ‘grab some soap doo doodoodoodoo‘, all while giving advice about sneezing into your elbow.
Pretty weird news tbh, check out the OG and 2020 version of the hit below.
