Chris Hemsworth is definitely grinding his ass off for this next Thor movie, pumping it in the gym while pushing production along despite the limitations of COVID-19. Now, he’s finally gotten the whole shebang to the first day of shooting, and he’s commemorated the affair in the classiest way possible.
Sharing images from the set over the public holiday yesterday, the Avengers star made a heartfelt post endorsing the widespread efforts to change the date, affirming that Australians should be able to all join together and celebrate their country on a day that doesn’t signify mourning and colonisation for Indigenous peoples.
“Many see January 26th as a date signifying the beginning of dispossession, disease epidemics, frontier violence, destruction of culture, exploitation, abuse, separation of families and subjection to policies of extreme social control,” he said. “Let’s begin the healing and stand together in unity and support with our First Nations people with solidarity and compassion.
“Let’s find a date where all Australians can celebrate this beautiful country together.”
The photos accompanying the post see him joined by Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi, as the two take place in a “Welcome to Country’ ceremony performed by Aboriginal dancers.
Pretty powerful, and no doubt a sentiment shared by countless Aussies across the country. Here’s hoping we see some proper progress soon regarding changing the date. For now, check out Hemsworth’s heartfelt post below.
