In what may be the most topical culinary move of the year, Sydney is now getting burgers modeled after your favourite Pokemon – and we’re expecting to see these flood Instagram feeds over the next fortnight.

Earlier this year, Down N’ Out – the not-so-subtle tribute to West Coast eatery In N’ Out – opened its doors in Sydney’s CBD to serve up moreish burgers at a pop-up location. It’s been so gosh darn popular that they’ve extended the restaurant’s opening hours, and we’re guessing that they’re about to get even more customers flooding through the door. By now, almost everybody’s been swept up in the Pokemon Go craze, and it seemed like only a matter of time before it somehow fused with Sydney’s overwhelming burger obsession.

Down N’ Out have been the ones to pull the trigger, creating three delicious versions of Pokemon that are also very aesthetically pleasing. Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Charmander are the creatures in question, who have their faces printed on coloured buns and stacked with beef patties, melted cheese and a couple of greens for that ever-important nutritional value:

According to Ben Kagan from Down N’ Out, the burgers took four weeks of experimentation to get just right. “We’ve tried many different ways of getting them to look amazing. At one stage we were experimenting with a hot-iron brand and then we tried printing the faces onto rice paper,” he said in an interview with Buzzfeed. Extra point for Pikachu’s slightly charred and crispy ears.

The burgers will be available from Tuesday, August 23 until Sunday, September 3 and will cost $15 a pop.
