Gonna take a while for Abel to recover from this one…

Despite being one of the biggest artists in the world and conquering virtually every corner of the music industry, one blemish that seems to be leaving a nasty mark on The Weeknd’s resume is the botched HBO series, The Idol. Centred on young female pop star, Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp) and her relationship with literally the seediest man alive, Tedro (played by The Weeknd), the first season of the series received universal hate for its poor execution, controversial story, and its general lack of any redeeming qualities. However, The Weeknd continued to tease a second batch of episodes following its season finale, despite the world seemingly wanting anything else.

Thus, today’s news that HBO has decided to pull the pin on the show doesn’t exactly come as a shock. Releasing a statement online, the streamer wrote, “The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers, have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”

Understandably, the world seems to be united in a celebration similar to that of when Donald Trump was dumped as US President, with all corners of the internet making very clear their sense of joy at the announcement. Twitter (or X) appears to be the main arena for the mass outpour, and much to our delight, the banter is top quality to say the least.
